What is the Chinese daily almanac (黄历) based on?

The Chinese daily almanac is built from the day's pillar (干支) in the Four Pillars (Ba Zi) system. From the day's stem and branch we compute the Day Officer (建除十二神), the day clash (冲), the nayin sound-element, and the presiding solar term. Each Day Officer carries a traditional register of suitable (宜) and low-key (忌) activities.

What are the suitable (宜) and avoid (忌) activities?

宜 (yí) lists activities a day traditionally favors and 忌 (jì) lists those it traditionally treats as low-key. They come from the Day Officer's classical register — the same backbone every Tung Shing almanac shares. We display the Officer and clash alongside the lists so the advice is transparent rather than oracular. It is for reflection and cultural interest, not medical, legal, or financial advice.

What does the day clash (冲) mean?

Each day's Earthly Branch clashes the zodiac animal six positions opposite it, along with a clash (煞) direction. People of the clashed sign are simply 'on notice' for the day — it signals proceeding with a little extra patience, not misfortune.

How often does the almanac day change?

The day pillar advances every 24 hours, cycling through the 60-day sexagenary cycle. The Day Officer follows the solar month and repeats once at each month-starting solar term (節), exactly as printed almanacs show.
